A Walk in the Woods

Hey, How is everyone doing? I hope all of you guys up on the northern coast are safe and sound. I know a lot of you are getting hammered with lots of wind and rain. I hope you’re not without power for too long.

I had planned on sharing with you a vegetable lasagna recipe that I sort of threw together.
I took all sorts of pretty shots of each step. They were good.
Not, The Pioneer Woman good, but good in my own half blurry way.
But again, I had issues with my memory card and I lost them all.
So no lasagna for you! I bet PW doesn't have these issues.

But we had a gloriously clear and crisp weekend.
(Sorry to all of you who are soaked right now.)

And so we stopped off for a little nature walk at Rocky Bayou State Park.
It was sort of a spur of the moment thing and I did not have my big camera with me.
Just my trusty iphone.

There were tons of these funky blobs of moss. It was really cool looking.

moss3_edited-1

I got up and personal with it.

No one was around to see me with my butt up in the air.

I was really hoping to see some fall color. There is not much around here in the way of reds and yellows.
It is still a little early for us. Which is why I love Instagram. I get to see everyone else’s fall colors.
Are you on instagram? Let me know if you are. I'd love to see your photos.
And feel free to check out my feed. It’s on the side bar.

Pitiful, I know.

Then on the way home we stopped along the roadside so I could grab some of these.

Free flowers :)
They filled out my new milk glass pitcher nicely.

I found a few more treasures recently too. I’ll be putting them in my etsy shop tomorrow.
So stop by Skyland Drive and have look.

Stay safe everyone and have a great week!

Thrifty Treasures for the Week

Thanks you guys for all of your kinds word for the loss of my Restoration Hardware clearance store. It was a sad day but I am over it now. I moved on. To the thrift stores to be exact.

I found a few things this week that I thought I'd share. First up is this chair I spotted as soon as I walked into the Lutheran thrift store nearby. Those Lutherans sure know how to price their things right. I picked up this little beauty for $3. I really like the shape of the back and the wide seat.

It even has nice shapely legs. Sort of straight and fluted up front and curved in the back. I will have to get some stripper for this one as the paint is peeling and well, it's not the best idea to put good paint over bad. I don't think it will be too hard to get it off. Knock on wood. Did you knock?

The ironstone platter I picked up for $1 and it will replace the one that I broke when I was hanging up my triangle shaped window frame. It's not as pretty but I have an idea to spruce it up a bit. The stack of white dishes were actually two stacks of 4. When I saw there were eight matching plates I grabbed both stacks. Eight plates for $2, not bad at all. They have this pretty rope detail on the edge. Hope you can see it. I am still having issues photographing white things.

The small milk glass dish was yet again, just $1. I just loved the ruffled edge.

I'm glad that my thrift store luck is coming back. It really comes in waves around here. I guess that's true for a lot of you. Have you all been having any luck or have you lost your mojo?

More Thrifting Finds

Hello everyone! Thought I'd show you some of my recent finds. I went to an estate sale to look at some quilts that I saw in the preview. But they were way out of my price range. Then, I spot a lady holding an old weathered oar. Why did I have to have that second cup of coffee? If I had been 10 minutes earlier I would have snagged that wonderful thing. I wish I had not seen that it was only $8. Oh well. I was about to give up hope on finding something when I came across this beat up old stool. It was only $7 and I loved the yellow paint. I wish there was a bit more of the yellow still showing on the legs but I was okay with it.

The two lower steps fold up into it. I will probably just seal it so it doesn't rust anymore and then use it for display. Not sure if it will go inside or out. Most likely inside for a bit.

Then I headed to some thrift stores and came across these taller milk glass vases. I didn't have any this tall so I was happy to find two. I can not for the life of me photograph them well. Anyone have and tips please pass them along.

Just when I was checking out I spied the picnic basket. Still had the yellow dishes and the removable shelf inside. It will look great stacked with my others.

So what has everyone found lately?

Lesson Learned: Shut Thy Mouth

So we head to the estate sale. Hubby is off so he comes along. He has a look of concern because of the area we are entering. I'm not judging and I explain to him that you never know what you will find or where. Luckily it wasn't in the run down, rusted out trailer park that we accidentally turned into. But the sale did turn out to be an glorified yard sale in my opinion. It wasn't run by the company that I usually see. They were a bit high. Wanting $65 for a small dough bowl that I wasn't even sure of it's age. She was a doll collector so there were tons of those. Some pretty darn scary looking ones too. Chucky scary.

We stop at a couple thrift stores. More of a flea market really.  I picked up a couple of ironstone pieces and 2 more milk glass cups to go with my others. Turns out they aren't even the same shape as what I have. Oh well, a quarter each. The gravy boat was 2.  I want to try that peroxide treatment that Red Door Home had suggested. It worked wonders on her piece. I won't be out much if it all goes horribly wrong.

I bought the chair for a planter. She had $5 on it and I asked her if she would come down. "Well Sugar" she said "whatcha wanna pay me for it?" At this point I should have just shut up. But there was too long of a pause. Times a wasting. And I blurt out 3 bucks just when she was going to say 2. I don't know what came over me. I wasn't too upset. Three dollars for a planter isn't bad I guess. Lesson learned (again) shut up and let them blurt out the price.

Looks comfy huh? That's some really old red vinyl covering the seat. I think I will paint it something cheery. Now I have to buy more plants for the chair. It's rather plain so maybe something viney to grow up the back of it. Stay tuned I hope to get it done before the summer is over.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Son #2 is home for a visit from college so it will be a fun weekend here.

A Cottage Charm Giveaway!

We have a winner!! I'm so excited. I don't know why, I didn't win. But Chris and Stephanie did!  Please drop me an email with your information. I can't find an email for you guys. Thanks so much for taking the time to visit. Hope you will come back to see what is going on.

I swear, I am always the last girl to the party. I recently found out about this major giveaway over at Twice Remembered. Kim is having her annual Cottage Charm Giveaway. It's happening the whole month of May. Okay, so there are only a few days left. Better late than never I guess. Here is the bounty that I have for you. I wanted to include things that represent me and yet appeal to many.

There is a 63" tie up shade in a neutral ivory sailcloth that you can dress up if you wish.

A sweet little wall plaque

Two small topiary wall hangings

A milkglass dish filled with an assortment of shells.

A small silverplated dish. Love the bottom of the milk glass.

~Rules Schmules~

I am told there should be rules. Hmmm, well, leave me a comment to let me know you would like to be entered in my very first giveaway. Please leave your email address if you do not have a blog so I can get in touch with you. Take a look around and if you like what you see and wish to hang around more than feel free to follow. Just leave another comment and let me know and you will get another chance. But it's okay if you don't, I will still like you.

If I can figure out this random generator thingy I will use that. Otherwise you are all going into a basket, so for crying out loud try to get along. And I will have my moody teenage son pick the winner. Lucky you :)

Unfortunately I am going to have to limit it to the US and Canada since shipping is so high and I am not a gozillionaire. Sorry about that.

All Things White

I went to an estate sale today. It was the first day of a 3 day sale. I was excited. I saw pictures online. It looked promising. There was a piece of milk glass I was really wanting to look at. It was a rose bowl. I don't have one. It opened at 8 am and I got there just before 10:00. Yes, I should get my butt moving faster. I know, I know. I browsed a bit in the garage. Evidently a bit too long. I look to the other side of the house and I see the rose bowl! In some lady's hand!! She was small I could have taken her. But instead I hovered over her for awhile. She kept looking at like she was unsure. I could grab it once she put it down! That was the plan.....but she didn't, I didn't, I was ticked. Oh well. There was some furniture. Some sold. Some waaaay too high, some I'd get with a discount. But I don't think I can get back there.

So what did I do? I went to thrift stores. I found some milk glass. Nothing like the rose bowl that got away mind you. But cute none the less.

Just a little vase, a compote and 5 little custard bowls. Not sure what they are really but they'll be good for recipe preps or cocktail sauce or lemon wedges. I had to console myself and buy something okay?

This is an ironstone piece I found the other day at GW. I liked the size of it. Probably had a lid at one time but that's okay. I don't have it all together either. Let's not judge.

Now this was found at another estate sale a couple of months ago. Lovely, no? The plastic blue flowers don't float your boat?

Look a little closer. Under all that plasticiness. See it peeping out? I came back for this on the 2nd or 3rd day. I forgot. But got it for a steal. Now, the guy told me it was a pretty old piece but it was packed to the rim with that green floral foam stuff. Packed I tell you! I wondered if I was going to get it out. I feared there would be glue and lots of it! It had one handle. How odd I thought. Why just one?

But alas, I got it all out. Remarkably it wasn't glued at all. It had that floral adhesive gummy stuff holding it all together. Came right out! Well, most. The rest came off with goo gone!

And that funny single handle? Well, I looked it up when I got home. I'm sure some of you know what it is but then there are the clueless ones like me. It's what they used years ago in the middle of the night when nature called. It is a chamber pot! Yup, I have a pee pee pot in my living room. Of course, just with ferns in it now!
