A Little Bit About Me

I was tagged by Tracy from Tracy’s Trinkets and Treasures in a getting to know you better sort of a game. I am supposed to list 15 fascinating things about myself. I don’t know if you could call mine fascinating but I’ll give it a go. I also got an award from Barb at This and That (as I bounce through life) and she wanted me to share some things about myself. So, I’m combining them here today. I almost forgot about it until I saw Michelle from Emerald Cove’s post. Which leads me right into my first factoid.

1. I have a horrible memory. I have to write stuff down or things slip my mind. Which is sometimes scary since my father had Alzheimer's. So, if I ever don’t get back to you on something, I’m not ignoring you, just remind me.

2. I went to a Catholic school for 8 years. I wore a uniform every day and I hated it. My fashion sense was stifled at a young age which might be why I can’t seem to put together a decent outfit even after all these years.

3. I was never athletic. I could not do a head stand during PE class and my teacher was dumbfounded that I couldn’t and proclaimed to everyone that I must just have a wobbly neck. I was crushed.

4.When i was young my father saw my Seventeen magazine with Phoebe Cates on the cover and said it looked just like me. Mainly because we both had braces and dark hair and chubby cheeks. Oh, how I wish I could say I looked like her now. She hasn’t aged much. I hope someone remembers her! Michelle’s look alike is Hilary Swank. Lucky girl. Don’t you think everyone has a look alike?

5. I only lived in one house growing up. But after I got married at the young tender age of 18 we ended up moving 10 times. I don’t think we’re done yet. No, wait, I know we’re not done yet.

6. We lived in Germany for 3 years. I cried a lot that first year from being home sick but now I wish we could have lived there longer.

7. I got pregnant with my first son while camping near the border of Germany and Austria. Coincidently, the couple that went camping with us had their baby two days before we did.

8. I am a mad google’er. I research everything before I buy it or if I want to learn something.

9. I over analyze everything. Probably too much but I’m learning to go with the flow more and what happens happens.

10. I’m an excellent driver. But I get very annoyed at people who choose to drive slowly in the left lane. I secretly wish I was driving a bumper car, or a mack truck, and could just push them out of my way.

11. I laugh at inappropriate times. I can't help it. When I'm nervous I just laugh.

(Are you still there? I did warn you they wouldn't be fascinating)

12. I am a visual learner. I have to see what you are doing in order for me to understand.

13. I am a Procrastinator with a capital P. Which is why I’m sitting here typing this up and not cleaning my floors.

14. I love the smell of weird things like wood, dirt, cut grass and paint. But I don’t care for the smell of paper whites which are a flower.

15. I am torn between wanting to live in new places and having our forever home so our one day grandkids will have a place they want to visit.

I thank Tracy and Barb for thinking of me. I’m not going to pass these on but instead if you’d like to state something new about yourself in the comments feel free to do so. I’d love to find out more about you. And you can go here if you want to see a previous post of mine where I mention even more tantalizing tidbits about myself. You could save it for tonight when you're having a hard time falling asleep.

On another note, today would have been my parent’s 60th wedding anniversary. I have them both on my mind today. Especially my mom since this is the first year for her without my father.

Their 50th anniversary party.

Thanks for letting me share. :)

see ya,

  1. I really enjoyed this Anita! Feel like I know you a little better. Hugs going out to your mom and you today in remembrance of your dad. Thanks for sharing a part of your life with us!

  2. Always fun to stop by your blog! You have the best sense of humor!!! I didn't know that you lived in Germany for 3 years. Very Cool! I can imagine this year is tough for your mom. Your parents were married a mighty long time and they made a sweet looking couple.

BTW, I gave you an award today! You're popular :) Take care, ~Michelle

  3. I love what I learned about you today. And yes you totally looked like phoebe..of course I remember her, Fast times at ridgemount high...classic movie! Sweet post about your Parents too...

  4. Well, I learned some things I didn't know before, so yeah. It was kind of fascinating! Your parents were an adorable couple.

I don't like paper whites, either. I think they smell like pee. I remember Phoebe Cates, but I don't think I have a famous look alike.

  5. the camping trip story was my fave.... hilarious that you and another couple conceived there. i am staying away from that area of the world!
you are a very fascinating person, anita! i loved reading about you!

  6. You forgot to mention that you have a wicked sense of humor.
Bah! PE teachers, what do they know?
I love those photos of your parents, especially the second one, so sweet.
hugs to you and your mom

  7. See that wasn't too painful was it? Thanks and I loved your answers. And I'm still awake. haha

  8. Hi Anita.. I really enjoyed reading your bio and no it was not boring at all.
Me,, you don't want me to do this, will take about three hours to tell my story..haha
    Great post!

  9. I loved reading this!

Germany? Really? That is very adventurous.

I laughed out loud at the driving thing. I'm exactly the same way!!

  10. Hi Anita-

I enjoyed this post and think you are fascinating. I, too am a visual learner, can't do it any other way. I do remember Phoebe Cates and once waited on her when I worked at Macy's in NYC when I was in college. She was with another model buying cosmetics. Can't stand the smell of paper whites either.
    My best- Diane

  11. I loved reading your 15 things Anita, it was great to get to know you a bit better! Have a great weekend. xx

  12. Anita I loved reading this! I know why we get along so well there are so many things you listed, memory loss, visual learner, procrastinator, I hate bad drivers and I love the smell of cut grass!! I bet it is tough for mom and you, so glad that you have each other.
Thanks for sharing you with us my friend!! :)

  13. What fun to learn more about you. You are most definitey interesting! Thanks for sharing.

  14. Thanks for sharing. I love that photo of your parents kissing at their 50th anniversary. I am sure your mom misses him terribly as well as yourself. So I guess ya'll kinda got bored in your tents camping huh? I am glad you over analyze and google things because you help me with things when you do that. Thanks for being my friend.

  15. This was fun Anita! You are probably a good driver because you are an over analizer, no? We have a lot in common.

  16. Boring? What are you talking about? You are so funny. Is there a picture of you somewhere on this blog? I want to know what you look like now that you are talking about Pheobe Cates. I wish I knew who my look alike was. You and I have a few things in common. I'm a googler, analyzer, visualizer too :)

  17. I loved reading this post. It's always fun to learn a little more about my blogger friends. I can see why your Dad thought you looked like Phoebe Cates, there is definitely a strong resemblance.

  18. I love that you shared. I always love getting to know my friends better.

  19. Anita~ this was great to read.... I so get the visual learner thing.. I need to touch and feel too as well....and I google stuff to death.... This is a great way for everyone to kinda let loose!

  20. Loved this post! Loved getting to know you!
And a head stand? I must have a wobbly neck too. Stupid PE teacher. Must have been smoking pot before class...isn't that what they all do?

  21. Loved reading and learning about you Anita, but AWWW that pic of your mom and dad is precious!

  22. It was fun learning more about you, Anita, and I loved seeing some of your old family photos... precious!
    Have a wonderful weekend!
    Jo :)

  23. Anita, I loved your post. It's so nice when a blogger let's us in their life. I have such trouble doing so, myself because I am actually extremely private. For me, blogging is a way of stepping out of my comfort zone in that way. It's uncomfortable, but I think (hope) good for me.
Apparently, you and I have a lot in common.

Catholic School (9 years) --As a teen I too had dark hair and chubby cheeks (now I am auburn and slim -- thank God, I lived that whole "homesick, but now glad I live there" thing here in Chicago -- It took me 7 years to get used to it -- that was 20 years ago! I hate that left lane thing too! (The left lane is for passing or faster speeds! Doesn't everyone know that?) Your blog is funny! YOu have sharp wit!

Congratulations to your Mother (and Dad -- he's with her in spirit, I am sure). My parents are both alive and will celebrate 59 this year. Amazing. But we keep wondering which one will go first and what that will be like. My thoughts are with you and your mother today! SUCH a privilege to have parents like that! ... especially today!

Won't bore you with the rest.

Keep on posting! I am more interested in your blog than ever!

  24. Always fun to get to know a little more about my blogging buds. We have quite a few things in common actually. Have a great weekend, Anita!

  25. Please forgive me for being so behind in my blog reading. I'm spending my day catching up and enjoying visiting with my blog friends.
This post was a lot of fun to read, you have shared so much we would never have known otherwise. What is it with gym teachers that they like to belittle students?
I had one that proclaimed to the whole class in 6th grade that I would need to wear a girdle when I grew up because I wasn't able to climb the ropes in gym class! How mean!
My heart goes out to your mom and to you, it's so difficult to experience missing a loved one, especially on special occasions. The photos of them are precious, esp the kissing on the 50th anniversary pic. How fortunate that they had such a long and obviously happy marriage.

  26. I love this post Anita!! Great to learn more about you- you just crack me up!!! Love it- thanks for sharing! :) I'm gonna email you a question bout overstock too!! :)

  27. I decided to finally stop by and see your blog and I can't believe how much I have in common with you... it's almost scary. Oh.. well, with the exception of looking like Phoebe Cates, and that's because I'm blonde and pale. And you still do resemble her by the way! :) I wish I had a pretty look alike. I too have cried my first year in Germany, gave birth here and laugh when nervous. Glad to know there are kindred spirits about. <3 Krissy

Thanks for stopping by today. I love hearing from you.
