Rusty Old Birdcage

How is your weekend going? It’s still chilly here but the sun is out and the sky is blue.
Can’t ask for much more then that.

I got a lot of great gifts for Christmas and my birthday but I thought I’d show you something a friend of mine found at a yard sale for me.

She saw it and thought it was something I’d like to redo.

But the thing is, I don’t want to redo it. I like it the way it is.

Is that crazy?

She sounded a little disappointed when I said I loved it like this.

It has weathered wood trim and scrolly accents on the bars and door.

The roof is metal and sort of a blue green color.
It has bits of rust here and there but still a lot of the great blue green color that I love.

I’m not sure what I’ll put in it. If anything. The door doesn’t open very wide.

So what do you think?
Would you leave it or paint it?

  1. If I were doing an all white room, then it would be painted WHITE.. I would also fill it with gifts from the sea; shells, coral, driftwood pieces..what-evers..
In fact, leaving it in it's natural state would also call for those same gifts from the sea..
Now if my decor had a central theme of gardens..then a beautiful green plant would be perfect.. the choices/ options are endless..
You must make the decision.. if any at all!!
    warmest hugs..

  7. Don't touch it! It looks great the way it is! I think I'd decorate a whole room around that. I can imagine it with some star fish (imagine that) and some blue mason jars full of shells or other fun finds. But, whatever you do with it will be fabulous. It is a great find and your friend did really good!

  13. I like it "as is". I'd put some moss on the bottom with some vintage porcelain birdies in some sort of vignette. What a cool find.

  14. What a gorgeous birdhouse, Anita! Now, I am usually one to say "paint it Heirloom White"!. But in this case, I truly love it just the way it is, and it seems that it'd be a shame to cover up that wonderful chippy patina, not to mention gorgeous color! I can see it with several large cream pillar candles, or some large sea shells. Have fun with it!

  29. As soon as I scrolled down to the birdcage, I thought, "Oh, look at that gorgeous color." I love everything about it. I'd keep it just the way it is. You must come back and show us what you did with it. I would have no idea, but I know you and your brilliant creativity. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
