I thought’s I’d try something new for me. I have always wanted to make a square pattern out of striped fabric. It really wasn’t all that hard. I don’t know why I waited so long.
I was going to just cover an old cushion I had but it was rather flat. Years of bottoms sort of did it in. I had some cording in my stash and added that as well.
I could not for the life of me find my extra long needle to tuff this cushion. So I got hubby to hold it smooshed together so that I could run a regular needle through the middle of it. I used embroidery thread and a button to hold it down then just tied it tight.
Here is what the chair looked like before. A $3 yard sale find that was missing some of the strapping stuff around the middle. And it was rather orangey. So I sprayed it spa blue.
Say hello to my new sewing chair.
If you would like me to do a tutorial on how to cut and piece it together let me know. Or if you have questions give me a shout. I’ll be happy to help.

What a nice makeover Anita! It looks very comfy :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great when you can take something and with a little paint and creativity, turn it into something lovely and useful. Great work! Like your mirror makeover too. Best wishes and blessings, Tammy
ReplyDeleteThat looks great Anita! Bravo. Had to giggle at the image of you and hubby trying to get that button in! ;)
ReplyDeleteAnita I just love all the fun happy colors you are using! What a fantastic redo!
ReplyDeleteI love the cushion and the chair! You matched those stripes perfectly, how did you do that? Yes, I'd love a tutorial on that.
ReplyDeleteI think you also helped me make a decision. I have two retro bamboo chairs I bought at a garage sale over ten years ago. They're from the 50s and were in almost perfect condition. The couple had them in their Florida room. I had them on my front porch and now they desperately need some tlc. I've been wavering between refinishing them or painting them. With the way yours turned out, now I think I'll go with paint! Thanks.
From drab to fab. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about your redo...the paint color, the fabric for the cushion, fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Anita and love the color.
ReplyDeleteIt's cute! I love the color! I would have thought you bought the cushion because your seams look pretty darn perfect!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty color combonation! Great redo and beautiful cushion!

It's nicer than anything in my home. Do you ever just sit around and not look at what you can add or change in your immediate vicinity? I don't think you can. I really need to kidnap you, so you can sit in my house, and go: "You need to do this and this, and this..." Once it's all done, I'd let you go again...or not. Maybe you'd like hanging out with me. We'd watch General Hospital every day at 2pm!
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric and that color of the chair is perfect!! Great find and perfect makeover!! :) You did an amazing job with the stripes!
ReplyDeleteGreat work! I love the chair and what you've done with it- the colors are wonderful! I just started experimenting with redoing pillows myself, but am still getting the hang of it- I think it'll be a while before mine come out this crisp and perfectly aligned! Seeing posts like this really give me the motivation to stick with it though. :)
ReplyDeletewow, that really was a little ugly duckling chair before, amazing how that blue paint made it so cute. And girl, that cushion is fabulous, really, what a perfect job of sewing, not one, but four seams, and the cording.
ReplyDeleteAmazing.
Beautiful, Anita! What a difference some color and cushion made. Thank you so much for linking with Air Your Laundry Friday, sweetie!
