I know a lot of you are still dealing with cold and snow. I'm sorry. In Florida spring break has started. While I was in Destin over the weekend I could tell the madness that is spring break has begun. I sounded like the town crier when I got home. The tourist are here, the tourist are here! There were all sorts of signs. Fender benders, crowds, Publix was wiped out and sunburns were everywhere.
Sadly, we have already had a spring break death here. A 23 yr old college student found dead after a night of drinking. Last year, 2 kids fell off their balconies to their deaths. Both underage. I know some people think that their kids don’t drink. Just assume that they do. Because more times then not they are.

A word about sun block. It is only useful if you apply it before you are beet red and you feel like you want to throw up. To those people who were glowing at Target the other day buying your spf 50, news flash, the wrinkles and sunspots have already begun.
I will admit, I do like to get a tan. I feel thinner with a tan. Just not this tan. You want a little color. A healthy glow. A sun kissed look. Not the overcooked turkey on Thanksgiving day look.
So come and enjoy the beaches of the gulf coast. After the horror of the oil spill last year the businesses would love to see you I’m sure. Just don’t forget the sun block. (see above)
see ya,
Isn't it just wonderful? We are so enjoying warm air for a change.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see you post about underage drinking...maybe I should do the same. My girls are now 24 and 21 and I can say these girls have really made their parents proud...they both waited until they were 21 before they consumed. My baby girl just had her 21st birthday last month and pics of her having her first drink was just too funny...let's just say...she didn't like it at all...she called home and said...this stuff is awful...I don't understand why anybody would want to drink this stuff! My 24 year old is getting married in July and they deceidedsince my both drink a very little...that they would pass on having any at their wedding and I'm sure that fun will be had by all with the mo-town band that we are having. We always talked to them about underage drinking and we are proud that they listened.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Anita... you gotta quit showing off your tan like that!! LOL!!! I'm ONLY KIDDING! We stay away from the beach until September when nobody is there... I would never ever attempt to go during Spring Break... couldn't handle it...
ReplyDeleteKendra
Spring? Oh yeah. I've heard about that.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Maybe I'll 'Google' it for a refresher!!!

Oh Anita, this post is like a romantic comedy. It makes me want to cry and laugh. So sad about the kids dying. It scares me so much to think about my boys out there in the "real" world one day.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the leathered, I mean, tan lady, you have to admit she does look skinny! LOL. What is it about a tan? I think it makes me look skinny too. Why is that? I thought I was the only one that thought that. Glad I'm in good company.
Tell me that last picture isn't real? Surely it's a suit or been photoshopped. Scary!!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Lisa x
Sage advice Anita....I wish EVERYONE would just realise that as much fun as a good 'piss up' (sorry if that offends anyone but that's how we refer to drinking 'quantity' down here in Oz....!) can be, there are so....SO....S-O many BAD concequences resulting from FUZZY judgement it just doesn't bear contemplating....!
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping the kids have a GREAT Spring Break & all go home with their health, dignity & LILY WHITE NON SCARY WRINKLY (like that lady in your pic) skin....!!!!!
Hope you're having an AWESOME week Lovey....!
Cheers,
Tamarah xx
Ahhhhhh....Spring break. I feel sorry for you. And you're right. About everything you said. Although, that Will Ferrell picture made me laugh, and cringe, and then laugh, and then squirm uncomfortably. Cheers- Kathy
ReplyDeletethat is so sad about the death... kids just don't always think clearly.
ReplyDeleteand that last picture is making my dinner come back up.
I'm so glad my kids are still little so I don't have to think about all the dangers of drinking. I can't imagine how awful it would be to lose a child.
ReplyDeleteI just can't get over that last picture. I've been feeling pretty bad about my wrinkles lately, but now, not so much.
Is that last photo real? It can't be. I can't imagine anyone getting like that...although I have seen some real dark tans before. I love sitting in the sun as well. I am careful though to use sunscreen.
ReplyDeleteSo sad about the deaths. Good post. We should all listen to your advice. My husband got lobster legs last year in Florida. It happens quick!
ReplyDelete*sigh* kids and alcohol, lethal combination. so sorry for his family.
ReplyDeleteboy I bet you see some crazy stuff this time of year. Hopefully they will leave soon, with most of their money left behind too.
Love that first shot of the beach. How I would love to be walking barefoot along there right now.
Wonderful advice! So sad "kids" die on spring break...they just don't think enough about their actions:(
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
We have had many talks with our daughter about drinking. Coming from both sides of her family, it's just not a good idea. She has seen and heard a lot over the years. Plus her dad works with addicts. If those stories don't turn you off of drinking, nothing will!!
ReplyDeleteThe lady that looks like the over cooked turkey? eeeeeewwwwwww. You know she's a serious sun worshipper because it looks like she is on a COT.
Yikes.
good luck with all the tourists.

Great advice. Couldn't imagine living in a place where spring breakers break too.
ReplyDeleteGreat post and advice! I wish I could get a tan but I only burn and skin cancer runs in my family so I don't get in the sun much. I think I look pretty young for my age, or at least people lie and tell me I do! lol I'd rather have young skin than tanned skin.
ReplyDeleteFL is a beautiful place. It must be amusing to see all the people as you described.
Enjoy your day and hopefully you'll find a place to park at the grocery store!
Tammy
I love your blog at first glance for two things: you used a photo of Will Ferrell and you live in a tourist trap too (hello, from Myrtle Beach, SC).
ReplyDeleteCant wait to read more, stop by and see my blog sometime.
A great reminder for everyone - teenager or not.
ReplyDeleteYikes! This post gave me so many flashbacks to when I lived in Florida (nearly 20 years!). I can't even count how many people like that roast turkey woman I saw on St. Pete Beach over the years. *shiver* How can people do that to themselves?
ReplyDeleteThat woman looks like a potato that's been left in the oven for way too long! YUCK! I am jealous of your weather, though. I think it's going to snow today.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminders, Anita. We don't always know what our kids are doing, and those are conversations that are definitely worth having with them.
We have stories like that over here on our Gold Coast every summer. I wish more people would subscribe to your way of thinking. I know I do!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes and enjoy your Spring days.
Natasha.
That is so tragic and sad about those kids. Good advice and a reminder, Anita. I was looking in the mirror yesterday and complaining about the lines around my eyes and mouth and now after looking at your photo of the "baked" woman I think I look OK! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Anita,
ReplyDeleteYour comment today inspired my post, I found it hard to make it, although I really wanted to write about Switzerland, I just couldn't get the right words, so I wrote about being an expat a bit. I explained the word, you made me smile, sorry for the confusion.
I joined your blog just now, love Florida, been there twice for holiday and once for disney, so reading your posts brings back happy times.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend,
Maureen
Is that photo for real? Oh my gosh!
