Plant a Chair or Planter Chair and a Surprise!

I started this project the other day and even remembered to take before, during and after shots. But then my SD card got uppity on me and refused to give me my photos I took. I had to reformat the card.
Which in turn deletes the whole card and POOF all your photos are gone.

I even tried to use a recovery program and got nothing. Luckily I only had those photos on the card. I know a lot of people store their photos on those SD cards. Get them off and back them up if they mean anything to you. You never know when your card is going to act up.

So I retook them yesterday and the light was not great.
Just imagine the chair in it’s natural stained brown state. I picked it up for $2 somewhere.
It was in great shape but I had no need for a seat-less chair so I decided to plant it.

Like I did for this one many moons ago.

sacks_edited-1

I had these coffee sacks in the garage for quite some time. I have several of the one on the left so I decided to use that one for the seat/pot instead of using window screen like last time.

I left it doubled up since it was a loose weave and trimmed a bit off the top. Then I just maneuvered and stapled it onto the seat frame. Photos would be nice huh? Stupid card.

This is how it turned out.

I spray painted the frame aubergine. Not a color I would normally use but I really like it with these flowers. It’s sort of a fall color too. I gave it a good covering, even the bottom of the feet in hopes of delaying the inevitable rotting.
My blue chair is now toast.

But you know what? For $2, a can of spray paint and some free burlap sacks, I don’t mind if it doesn't last forever.
Right now it looks cute and I like it.

Coastal Stripes and More Flowers

I have more plants to show you that I rescued from the half dead section.
I mean clearance section. I showed you the watering can pots here.

I could not find the picture of the plants when I first brought them home.

But they were you know, half dead.

Now they are not.

pot2_edited-1

This whole plant assortment was already put together. It was just in a much smaller pot.

And part of it was brown-ish.

I had these 2 cheap plastic terracotta colored pots and well, they needed something.

So I decided to stripe them.

striped pots

First I primed them both with a plastic primer.  I painted one all white and one all blue.
Then I taped them off and reversed the colors.

Take off the tape and voila! Striped pots.

The spray primer for plastics is right there with the rest of the spray paints.
That way you can use whatever color you want.

Gives them a coastal vibe I think
.

The croton in the back was on clearance but not half dead at all.
I guess they just wanted to get rid of them.

I added a sweet potato vine and a petunia. It’s just not blooming yet.

I really like the bright green of the vine.

It give a nice bright glow even when there are no flowers.

These guys just needed a bigger pot and a little trim and they bounced right back.

lizard

I had someone watching me. He was on the inside of the screen. I hope he doesn’t end up in the pool. We’ve had a few casualties. But I’m not one to pick them up, I leave that for others. Unless their tiny.

Oh, I saw the teeniest lizard the other day. It was so cute. I wish I had my camera on me.

Anyway, now I have 2 more pots full of color for next to nothing really.

I need to get some new plants for my hanging baskets. I lost 2 of them.

I need something that likes the heat.

I will leave you with this shot of Henry.

He was outside and came in with this plumbago bloom stuck to him like a bow!
Hmmmm, I wonder if he’s trying to tell me something. :)

Visiting Completely Coastal and Rescuing Some Flowers

Today I get to go on a little road trip.
I’ll be over at Completely Coastal visiting with Maya and showing off a few things.

So come by and say HI!

Completely Coastal is filled with coastal inspiration and lots of great places to shop.
A one stop shop so to speak. You’ll love it there.

I've been spending a lot of time outside lately. Before it gets too dreadfully hot to go out there. I have been battling with the mosquitoes though. They are extra tough this year. Fleas also seem to be horrible. Is anyone having problems with them even though your pet is on meds? Ugh, hate it!

Anyway, I got a few new plants for the patio around the pool that I found on clearance at Lowes. Even plants go on clearance. You just have to catch them before they are totally fried.
Some can be saved, some can not.

watering cans

I came across these 2 watering cans. They were left over from Mother’s Day I think.
I picked out the 2 best ones. Each container originally had 3 plants in it.
One was dead. The other 2 needed a little TLC.

I really didn’t want a pink can. It was cute but not the right color for the patio.
But I could change that.

blue can

See!

The pot slipped out and I removed the fabric.
Then I painted the watering can in Peekaboo Blue by Krylon which I used here also.

blue can2

I trimmed off all the dead parts and just watered it.
It filled out nicely.

yellow can_edited-1

I liked the yellow can so I left that one.
I added a white petunia to this one. It’s a little slower coming around.
But it will.

I need to trim off the ends so that it fills out more in the center.
It’s hard to cut off the flowers but it really helps the plant in the long run.
Tough love.

yellow can2

They ended up being 1.80 each. The petunia was .99 and the paint I had.
I got 2 nice pops of color for the patio for under 5.00.
I think that was worth it.

I have some more rescued plants I’ll show you soon.
Have you checked out the clearance section for plants?

Now zip on over to Completely Coastal and see what I’m up to over there!

Bamboo Chair and Cushion

I thought’s I’d try something new for me. I have always wanted to make a square pattern out of striped fabric. It really wasn’t all that hard. I don’t know why I waited so long.

chair3

I was going to just cover an old cushion I had but it was rather flat. Years of bottoms sort of did it in. I had some cording in my stash and added that as well.

chair4

I could not for the life of me find my extra long needle to tuff this cushion. So I got hubby to hold it smooshed together so that I could run a regular needle through the middle of it. I used embroidery thread and a button to hold it down then just tied it tight.

chair2
Here is what the chair looked like before. A $3 yard sale find that was missing some of the strapping stuff around the middle. And it was rather orangey. So I sprayed it spa blue.

Say hello to my new sewing chair.

If you would like me to do a tutorial on how to cut and piece it together let me know. Or if you have questions give me a shout. I’ll be happy to help.

Spray Paint to the Rescue

We’ve had quite a few windy days lately so spray painting has been a challenge. I bought some spray paint for a pair of lamps for my bedroom but it wasn’t quite right. So, I used it on this outside bench. It’s almost the color of our pool. Well, when it’s clean.

bench2
It’s a shade by Rustoleum which has slipped my mind right now. If you want to know the name, just let me know, I’ll find it.

bench

I started out with some tired pieces that were starting to rust. I took a wire brush and scrubbed off as much of the rust as I could and then wiped them down. No primer, just went right to the paint on these. Since they are outside I wasn’t getting real fussy with them.
bench3   table

I brightened up this little table just by using some white to match the grout lines.
 table3

This old chair got sprayed last year. It’s a pretty comfy chair. I need to make some new cushion covers with all that fabric I still have. Can you see that wire shelf behind the chair? It might be my next victim. I just bought a can of yellow that needs to be used.
 table2

I took that same shade on the arms of the chair and sprayed this oval planter. I love the curvy legs on it. I used Krylon’s Peekaboo Blue.

planter2

These lantanas are actually going in one of my new flower beds. I still need to get some new annuals for all my stands and planters.

planter

I will take more pictures of the whole area when it’s all cleaned up. Waiting on the pollen to finish up before we power wash the decking and screen.

I’m still working on those lamps for the bedroom. Here’s my starting point. I’m giving Spa Blue a try. I’m not crazy with the way the paint was coming out of the can. I’ll let you know how it turns out. The gloss paint is almost leaving a texture. Anyone know why?

So, have you been doing any painting lately?
