Treasure Hunting

I haven't gotten around to showing you my latest finds from this past weekend. First stop was an estate sale. I could easily spend over an hour at some of these. I never give my self enough time too look at things like books. I only came out with two things. There were some white tureens I wish I had gotten. I don't really have room for them but perhaps I could have resold them. My thinking gets clouded in these situations a lot. I have to be more clear headed next time.

The footed silverplate dish was really dirty and when I cleaned it up it was pretty scratched up. But that is hidden when I put my sea glass in it. I liked all the details. The vase was hard to photograph but it is etched and has a ruffled rim. The bottom is actually sterling and it came with that ceramic rose in it. I didn't want the rose but for $1 I got the rose and the vase. The base still needs a bit of a cleaning.

We then went to a garage sale. Now, I've seen the signs for this sale before but I never seemed to make it over there. They have them twice a month and the money goes to the Covenent House which is a Hospice center. Hospice workers are angels and I felt like I had to get something!

I came home with this blue vase from Target. Which turned out to have some blue missing. The white mini bundt pan which is marked Princess House. I've heard of them, but know nothing of them. It was only $1. And it happens to match my Pottery Barn cake dish to a T. And my favorite find of the day was this small white bowl for .10. It's from WWII. Stamped  US Army Medical Department. I just fell in love with it.

This will be my newest quest. I must find more! We were Air Force not Army but that's okay. I'll even buy some from the Navy. I will be sure to go twice a month now to that Hospice garage sale. Looks like they will have some good stuff in the future. You never know. I just think of it as giving a donation.

I will be linking up to Southern Hospitality's Thrifty Treasures  and Coastal Charms's Nifty Thrifty Tuesdays

  2. Hi Anita! Looks like you found some neat stuff! My favorite is also that adorable Army bowl! How neat this that?! I am already looking forward to this weekends sales. I am like you in that I often see really neat things at sales & don't pick them up, thinking I either don't need it, or where would I put it?! When I get home, I always regret passing them up!

    Is your banner new??
Or am I mixing up your blog with another?
    Anyway,it is very cute.

    Regarding turquoise stool:
going price is $12-15, so $10 was a good deal.

  8. Hey Anita! Thanks for stopping by! I'm stripping the woodwork on the window, and I am still cleaning it up - a bit challenging! It will be stained the same color as the door - hopefully by next weekend I'll have it done. (We love observant visitors!!)
Love your blog - too much fun! I've got one of those army pieces - only it's a mortar bowl (husband's a pharmacist, so we collect lots of things like that!) Don't you just love junk?!! You got some great finds....we'll be back to find out what else you get :)

  10. Hi Again, Anita,
In answer to your question about the anti snore pillow, yes it really does work! It has been a real God send, let me tell you! We bought it several years ago at Kohl's, though they sell them at lots of stores now, like Bed Bath & Beyond. It's one of those memory foam type pillows, made specifically to cut the snoring down. It doesn't totally eliminate it, but it cuts it waaaay down! I am one of those people who needs total silence to sleep, so I still use earplugs at night! Without hubby using the pillow I would toss & turn all night! Good luck!

  11. The bowl is my favorite too. I had a bud vase like the one you found. My parents gave it to me one year. I think my daughter has it now. Very pretty.

  12. Great finds. I really like the vase reminds me of a candleholder I have that belonged to my Mom. I've never seen one of those Army bowls, very cool, I'll be on the look out for them now.

  14. Oh thanks so much. I was a little disappointed when it turned out so scratched but it really was the base I liked! I will go check out your wall of trays! I only have a few of those but see them often.

  16. Anita, thanks so much for your sweet comments about my wall of silver. You are so right about it being hard to capture in photographs, too. I sell antique mirrors on eBay and picture them all the time and just thought that mirrors are the hardest things to photograph, but after trying to picture the silver I may just change my mind. It kinda turns out with a yellowish tint if you're not careful!

I'm so enjoying your pretty blog!

  17. We're Army- or rather my dad was- so I was an Army brat.
I would have bought the bowl, too!
You left the tureens?!?!? Are you nuts? ;)
They are just hard to find, is all :)
I love the thrill of the hunt as much as I do saving money, don't you?
Did you get a clematis yet?
